Fast-casual eatery chows down for charity to benefit Feeding South Florida on September 18
MIAMI, Fla. (September 18, 2019) – In honor of Hunger Action Month and National Cheeseburger Day on September 18th, BurgerFi has teamed up with Feeding South Florida to host Chow Down for Charity to help “End Hunger One Bite at a Time.” The event will be hosted by Y-100’s on-air radio personality Chris Cruz at the newest BurgerFi restaurant in Pinecrest and will raise money and awareness for the more than 706,000 children and adults in South Florida who don’t know when they will get their next meal.
Who better to help take the biggest bite out of hunger than Takeru Kobayashi (Kobi), renowned competitive eater and Guinness World Record Holder? Beginning at 11 a.m., guests can cheer on Kobi as he competes against former pro athletes including current Miami Heat Center “Bam” Adebayo, NFL Alumni Russell Maryland and NBA Alumni and Hall of Fame Motivational Speaker Walter Bond – in a fun cheeseburger eating contest. The athletes will take on six single BurgerFi Cheeseburgers with Kraft- Heinz signature Mayochup (ketchup, mayonnaise, and a special blend of spices), while the champ takes on 18 Single BurgerFi Cheeseburgers with five minutes on the clock. BurgerFi will donate $100 for every cheeseburger eaten – up to $5,000 – to Feeding South Florida. Additionally, guests can enjoy Coca- Cola’s® Freestyle Sampling Truck and try over 100 Coca-Cola Flavors, including BurgerFi’s exclusive Fi Lime Fusion drink to pair with their favorite burger.
In honor of National Cheeseburger Day, BurgerFi will offer $1 BurgerFi Cheeseburgers* nationwide with the purchase of a BurgerFi Cheeseburger.
“We are honored to join Feeding South Florida in their cause and help end hunger one cheeseburger at a time,” said Charlie Guzzetta, Chief Brand Development Officer. “National Cheeseburger Day is a big day for BurgerFi and we want to celebrate with an event that will also help the local South Florida community.”
During the event, BurgerFi will also auction off the chance to try a secret, never-before-seen burger called the KobiFi with all proceeds benefitting the charity. Only 15 Japanese inspired burgers will be available for bidding and will feature Double R Ranch American Wagyu Patties, Truffle Taleggio Cheese, Umami Bacon Shiitake Jam, Pickled Daikon “Cucumbers”, micro Mustard Greens and Soy Tomato Ketchup, served on a pan-fried Ramen Noodle Bun.
From now through the end of September, all South Florida BurgerFi restaurants will have donation boxes where guests can support their local community by contributing additional dollars, 100% of which will go to Feeding South Florida.
“We are thrilled to be a part of BurgerFi’s inaugural event during Hunger Action Month,” said Sari M. Vatske, Executive Vice President of Feeding South Florida. “As individuals, businesses and government, we all have a role to play in getting more food to those who need it as well as breaking the cycle of hunger and poverty.”
